We too had an excellent holiday. The pool indeed was excellent for children and (some) of the adults to play in, so you don’t have to feel impelled to go out and do lots of cultural stuff. We did however manage to go to Montségur, well worth the ascent, and to see the locks at Castelnaudary (well worth the descent). Advice about local eating in the guest book is excellent, especially in our opinion, the Domaine de Fajac. As long as a duck-centered menu is acceptable, it really is a find.
And sitting on the terrace looking out to the mountains was excellent!

Having a lovely time. Love the villa, well equipped but not too cluttered, easy to keep clean! Have been to Mirepoix market – brill! Been to Foix – impressive. Ax to check out the ski resort – better than expected. Pamiers town looks nice, but only been to supermarket and driven through. Villefranche de Lauragais very friendly, lock at Renneville very pretty – lucky enough to see it in action. Watersports centre at Belflou (sailing, windsurf and canoeing) very good indeed and you can swim in the lake. Carcassonne Old Town is magnificent and the new town has some good shops and nice squares for coffee and “people watching”. Have been kayaking on the Ariège with “La Belle Verte” in Vernet de l’Ariège. Very nice people, excellent for our whole family – fun day out. Need to speak a little French, though.
Found a good restaurant in Pamiers – Les Bains Douche, on the main road next to the stream near the tourist office. Have also eaten in the Restaurant in Belpech, which was good too – moules frites; good value. Plat du jour in both restaurants was very good. Ate at Mer et Terre in Limoux which was very good but a long drive (40 minutes) from here.
Warning! Don’t let Richard Samuel come out here the same time as you. It stormed the night he arrived and turned beautiful again the day he left! (Thanks for a luxurious and peaceful dwelling for our holiday, Richard!)
I am having a lovely time the villa is bigger than I expected!! It is extremly quiet hear and very peacefull we did kiayaking hear and it was exelent! We went up to the ski resort and it was much better than I thought it would be.
The food in the restaurants is lovely! Every day my dad goes to belpesh in the morning to get some bread and crussants but also tried to get some pain au raisins but only got it once. I am hopeing to go horse riding soon!

A beautiful Spot.
Found a lovely pizza place in Foix – on the main square opposite the Post Office…called Don Pepes. Great Pizzas…no fuss…and only €40 for 4 people.
À bientôt!

Had a lovely holiday. Weather was good, gîte comfortable. Had a look round Mirepoix market which was superb and then had lunch in the market square at Le Cantegril; good lunch, very pleasant with a couple of guitarists playing. Went to Carcassonne and looked round the old town – very impressive.
Visited Foix which was a lovely town, and then on to Montségur. You need to be fit to climb the steps, though – I’d love to know how many steps!! The views in this area are magnificent. Went to a small village near Pamiers called Carla Blaye which was very pretty; lots of artists etc live here, wonderful views.
Had a lovely evening at the Auberge du Puget; the food was superb, well worth a visit (more expensive than most, but definitely worth it. We drove there the day before and looked at the menu and booked. Very nice couple who own it.

A chance discovery in the back of the Sunday Times and we find ourselves in a delightful place. We now move on to Andorra. A great holiday.

Great Hols. Had a vast variety of climate changes from 15o and rainy on arrival to just under 40o on last day! Don’t wait to take photo of the mountains, as they disappear! Check out rare duck at next door Auberge and great pizzas at Mirepoix. Will miss the pool and the beautiful view of sunflowers

Very well appointed gîte with the cleanest pool ever encountered. A great spot for an “away from it all break”. Le Cantegril at Mirepoix recommended, but choose a quiet night for the Hotel du Centre in Castelnaudary, where service collapsed totally under pressure.
Played “Golf de l’Ariège” west of Foix. Avoid a warm day! A long way to go for a decent course but many long uphill treks between green and elevated tees.
Delighted to find reference to our neighbour at Fajac la Selve in John Burton Race book “French Leave” to be found on the bookshelf (p95)

We have had a lovely two weeks here at Loustalviel, relaxed and beautiful place to be. Carcassonne – fantastic, but even better at night! Mirepoix, a great place to sit and watch the world go by.

Enjoyed our week here. A little too cool to try the pool, but enjoyed our day trips to neighbouring towns and evenings here with good food and wine

We arrived by train from Barcelona after flight from USA. This place is perfect for day trips to small villages, castles etc. Local street markets are a great way to capture feel of French countryside

A very tranquil and beautiful setting. What a great house! We have had great fun exploring the area and splashing for many hours in the pool .

Beautifully restored, serene and spacious – a truly wonderful location! The pool is superb and we enjoyed all the little touches – many thanks for the wine! We would recommend Le Puget (restaurant) to other readers a fully rounded experience that definitely puts you smack-bang in the middle of the South of France.

House was fantastic and location is spectacular. Found the restaurants in Mirepoix excellent, especially Le Cantegril in the square. Children loved the pool. Thanks for a very pleasant, restful holiday.
